Crack open the mulled wine, we have news! But before we tell you, here’s some free music to get you in the mood. Tigercats have recorded a cover of the Sonics’ “Santa Claus” for Darren Hayman & Fika Recordings’ Christmas in Hayworth advent calendar. They’re giving away 2 mp3s every day till christmas so strap in and check it out.
Now that you’re all suitably filled with christmas cheer and free music, here is the news. Tigercats are pleased to announce that they will be releasing their debut album, titled “Isle of Dogs”, on March 26th on Fika Recordings and Acuarela Discos. Fika will be putting out the vinyl and Acuarela the CD. Naturally we are furious that they went for the big money instead of staying with Haircut, and we urge you to buy 10 copies each and ritually burn them in the street. If you would prefer to express your disgust in person, they’ll be doing a bunch of UK shows around about London Popfest in February, so you should have an opportunity to lecture them on indie ethics in person at a rock club near you.
Some of those shows will be supporting Allo Darlin’, who release their second album next year. It’s call Europe and Bill Botting has made a lovely video for Tallulah, one of the songs on it that you may have heard before if you’ve seen them live over the past year or so. You can see it at a allodarlin.com
Carpet Ministry didn’t quite make it together before christmas eve this year as at least half of them have been up to their neck rebuilding Soup Studios. They’ll be doubly ready next year, but in the meantime I suggest you head over to the Fika advent calendar for a wealth of free christmas goodies. I know I suggested that already, but I meant it. Dave Watkins’ prog-glockenspiel Snowman epic is keeping my warm as I write this, and I’m going to celebrate finishing it by catching up on the jingle-gameboy freakout from the ever excellent Moustache of Insanity and the next dose of heartbreaking ukelele from Owl & Mouse. Keep your ears to the ground next year for new music from Houdini and who knows, maybe even Hexicon. But first, have a happy christmas everybody.
Love from Haircut Records.
